Marilyn's Movies: The Final Reviews

 As promised...
Finally, here is the rest of my career spanning review of the movies of Marilyn Monroe!

These are her best films and the sheer definition of what made her such a legendary star!

Niagara  (1953)
An exciting thriller. I believe this is the only one of Marilyn's movies where she played a person with malicious intent and also I think it's the only film in which her character dies! With a beautiful backdrop of Niagara Falls as the setting to this mysterious masterpiece, tensions between a couple reach the level of murder.
Also Stars: Joseph Cotten, Jean Peters

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953)
This has always been my favorite Marilyn movie!
It's the ultimate friendship chick flick
(along with it's companion "How To Marry A Millionaire", more on that one soon...)
about "two little girls from Little Rock"
whom, after several mishaps, still manage to have a happy ending.
Jane Russell plays Marilyn's best friend (other than diamonds, of course!).

 * Singers Lorelei Lee and Dorothy Shaw travel to Paris, pursued by a private detective hired by the disapproving father of Lorelei's fiancé to keep an eye on her, as well as a rich, enamored old man and many other doting admirers. *** Credit to IMDB

There's several gorgeous outfits and good songs throughout this movie!

Marilyn is a knock out!

How To Marry A Millionaire (1953)

Three women set out to find eligible millionaires to marry, but find true love in the process. **IMDB

There's not much else to say about the simple plot summary, except for a funny twist ending which I won't spoil here. This movie is alot of fun to watch! Another female friendship flick in the same vein as it's sparkly predecessor.

This was the first film to be shot in CinemaScope, a term for an aspect ratio which is now known as and more commonly referred to as "Widescreen".

Also Starring: Lauren Bacall, Betty Grable

   River Of No Return (1954)

Plot Summary
The title river unites a farmer recently released from prison, his young son, and an ambitious saloon singer. In order to survive, each must be purged of anger, and each must learn to understand and care for the others. ***

  Trivia
Both Otto Preminger and Marilyn Monroe were forced to do the film against their will, due to contractual obligations. They both expressed their frustration over the script which they considered below par. However, the film was a box office hit upon its release and remains a popular classic western.

Wow, that certainly is an interesting tidbit! I thought this movie was actually above par!
Marilyn stars in this classic Western tale about a nine-year old boy (played by Tommy Rettig of "Lassie" fame) who is reunited with his estranged father. But they soon find themselves (along with Marilyn) trying to escape an attack by Indians. You know, the typical cliche stuff pretty much all old Western movies consist of. It was interesting to see Marilyn with such long hair, and to play the guitar!
